Choose Your Adventure - 03. The Corsair ⚓
6 months ago – Fri, Oct 31, 2025 at 07:07:29 AM

Ahoy Spacefarers,

You've once more taken a vote, and once more decided upon your fate! This vote be much closer than the last, and twas only a few that tipped the scales. But by thunder a decision has been made, and so toward the haunting toll of the bell do we sail...

As you near the sound, objects come into view. Broken planks and cracked kegs, cannon shot and rigging, bodies drifting in the vacuum. This is no distress call, tis a grave! You see a vessel, if it can even be described as such, broken clean in twain like a brittle branch. The bell is ringing in slow rhythm, as the cloven ship rocks gently on the silt stream. Its name, The Corsair, still legible on its stern. What could have done this is beyond you, there be no hazards here to be spoken of.

Yet, what is lost by some may be found by others, and shipwreck means salvage! Wasting no time you haul in what drifting chests and objects you can see that remain undamaged, there be little more you can do for these poor souls. Rifling through, you even manage to find a strange 🟡
Harpoon Cannon 🟡 of some kind, still in working order! With a bit of work, this upgrade might prove useful in the ventures to come...

You've not had long to loot when the captain orders the sails dropped and engines fired, it's time to leave this place with what you've salvaged, your real treasure still awaits in the Beyond!

Just then you hear another bell toll, this time your own! Dark shapes begin to cloud the colourful mists about you, like carrion birds circling a corpse... Like a flash the silhouettes begin to descend,
silt sharks! They move in swarm toward the deck of the ship, picking off crew whose screams fall to silence as they are wrenched into the inky void and lost. You've only a few moments to decide what to do, as the Dawnstar lurches from its momentary anchorage in an attempt to escape this nebula once and for all!

Do you rush to crew the cannons, and blast these devil-fish down to see old hob? Or do you instead run to assist in making way, thinking these beasts won't stand a chance out in the clear stellar space of the silt stream? Or do you linger, grabbing one last trinket before making your escape?

Choose Your Adventure - 02. Into the Nebula 🌀

Ahoy Spacefarers,

Our adventure continues, deep into the heart of the colourful nebulous cloud hanging across the silt stream! But first, a brief reminder that any who wish to join in wider discussion with the community, may do so aboard the Dragons Vault Discord! Now, without delay, we continue:

The vote has been taken, and you the crew have spoken! Captain Drakeheart swings the intrepid Dawnstar Port-side, and straight into the heart of the colourful nebula glimmering upon the yonder...

The Dawnstar glides forward, its sails billowing in the glitter of silt, as its next destination comes into stark relief ahead of the vessel's bow; a billowing cloud of swirling colour hangs ahead, swallowing the siltstream entirely, obfuscating the Beyond. As the ship cruises closer, the scale of this strange cloud becomes clear, swallowing the Dawnstar like a great sand storm, bathing the deck in a thick chromatic mist.

You've never seen a sight like it, and as it clouds over the entire vessel it becomes apparent that your navigator now has no visual markers to maintain the ships bearings, even the stars are hidden from you here. None aboard seem to know what the origins or nature of the kaleidoscopic mist might be, perhaps you should investigate?

It is then that the most perceptive amongst your number begin to hear a sound, slow yet rhythmic, echoing from deeper into the mist and beyond sight. A ship's bell, ringing from far within the unknown. Its sound continues, haunting the once whimsical stellar seas about you. Your captain looks to you all now, and asks again for a choice to be made:

If you yearn to learn more of the mist, you can elect to slow the vessel and gather some of it for investigation. Or, if you wish to follow the echoing ring of the distant ship's bell, you can vote to follow its siren sound. Or perhaps you want nothing more to do with this mystery, and instead wish to charge headstrong through the mist, and pray you reach the other side...

Ahoy Spacefarers!

The crew has spoken, yer voices be heard and yer vote be binding! The Sunsail shall be the vessel of this here voyage, and we who crew shall dub her the Dawnstar!

Now, as we embark upon this treacherous voyage, our newly anointed Captain Drakeheart would remind you all that anything we discover on this voyage shall become part of the final book. Only your decisions can decide where the we go and what we find. Now look forth spacers, for our crew be eager to taste the silt wind, and our first choice be upon us!

You feel the wood decking beneath your feet creak, wind begin to pick up as the silt sails catch. Then, breaching the silt clouds above, you see it at long last; your eyes blink in the bracing starlight, and you look upon the glittering silt seas of the Beyond. Ahead of you is a wild galaxy, a galaxy of adventure and of danger, with much to be found and even more to be lost…

You look to your fellow crew mates, others who had answered the call and rallied aboard this most humble of vessels. Together you have named the ship
Dawnstar, and for better or worse you are now all bound to its fate. You’ve barely left port when this truth is hammered home, as a fork in the silt stream presents itself, and Captain Drakeheart looks to you all to make the call on where the Dawnstar might go:

“As promised crew, this be a vessel guided by the equal will of us all. It be your decisions what shall guide us toward our treasure, and let no single spacer determine the fate of us all! The treasure we seek can only be found by those with fortune on their side and agreement in their hearts. With that, here be the first test facing this here crew:

To our port side the silt seems to take us into nebulous clouds, that be shimmering with astral colours, colours what obfuscate our visions within. To our starboard the space looks clearer, and it’s plain that the silt takes us close to an asteroid reef of some sort.”

💫 £150K Stretch Goals Sunk, Our Vessel is Chosen!

Ahoy Spacefarers!

It’s been quite the week, from smashing our funding goal in 22 minutes, to seeing Lodestar making the rounds in various outlets, to watching as each of our carefully placed stretch goals were systematically broadsided by the incredible support you’ve all levied for our campaign!

So first and foremost, a huge thank you from Aston and myself! We’ve tried to take it slow this week and have a brief rest before we voyage on to the rest of the campaign, but it seems that in that time you’ve all flown past our stretch goals and into the stratosphere. We are so incredibly humbled by your support, and cannot wait to start making this book a reality!

In the meantime, head over to our community discord to join in the discussion!

⚓️ Sunken Stretch Goals!

The seas of the Beyond now lie littered with the remains of once mighty stretch goals, blasted to smithereens by a barrage of support from you, our most loyal crew! From additional sub-species to an entire set of mech mechanics, it’s been almost impossible for me to create new graphics fast enough to keep up with you all! So a huge thank you there, and if you’ve any questions about existing stretch goals (or potential future goals) please throw them in the comments below!

🌟 Your Vessel is Chosen!

It seems that a vessel has been chosen in our adventure for this campaign, the potently gunned sunsail shall be the ship what sails yee beyond the clouds and into the beyond! Myself and Aston are currently taking our first weekend off in months (mostly), meaning we will begin our adventure Monday aboard the newly christened Dawnstar! So get prepared to make your choices carefully, for whatever you choose shall determine which new additions to the book you discover, and wether or not we are able to make it to treasure rumoured to exist beyond the heart of a dying star….

So until Monday, have a wonderful weekend, and may the silt be ever in your sails!

Ahoy Spacefarers!

Our voyage toward Lodestar is well underway, but in our haste it seems we’ve forgotten to tell you of your charted mission! Treasure awaits at the end of an ancient star chart, all you need to do to begin is choose which vessel might carry you across the stars towards this booty! Not to fear, we have three “top of the line” ships available today, crewed and ready to go!

Twice a week you will be asked to choose where your ship travels, and what choices its crew make under your command in a “Choose your own Adventure” style challenge!

As this epic voyage progresses, any items you loot, beasties you face, ships you encounter, or magic you martial, will then become part of the final Lodestar Manual! It be down to your wit, wisdom, and savvy nerve to guide our vessel through the dangers of space. You decide what makes it into the final book, and wether or not we reach the treasure at the end of our map, hidden beyond the reaches of a dying star…

Should you succeed and reach the treasure at the maps end you will be anointed with a choice of additional rewards to pick from, changing the seas of Beyond forever!

So choose your ship from the three available, and comment a name for this vessel below! The most liked comment shall determine what we christen this intrepid craft, provided it isn’t too offensively scurvy a suggestion…
